Schuh Music Studio

Violin Lessons

My name is Crisanne and I teach violin here at the studio! I started learning violin in elementary school and performed through college in the University of Idaho and Oregon State symphonies. Since college I have taught privately as well as done event music for churches, weddings, and fundraisers.

I love violin because it offers endless potential for adding beauty to even the simplest of notes, which is something I hope to help students see as they progress. I take an individualized approach to each student's learning, and am always adapting my methods to fit their specific strengths and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What days does the studio offer violin?
A: I teach on site in Oostburg on Monday afternoons and evenings. I teach from my home in Sheboygan on Tuesday evenings.

Q: I can't make either of those times work, are virtual lessons a possibility?
A: Yes! While virtual learning does offer some challenges for younger, beginning students, it is definitely an option if in-person is not feasible.

Q: What methods do you use?
A: I start beginning students with a combination of Suzuki and Essential Elements. After the first books have been completed I use Suzuki for the main material, Wolfhart or Mazas for etudes, and Hrimaly or Flesch for scales. Along the way we may add in pop music, duets, or chamber music for specific performance opportunities.

Q: What equipment do I need?
A: You will need a violin, bow, rosin, music stand, and access to either a tuner or tuner app (this app is my personal favorite). Violins come in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 4/4 sizes. I can help you determine a good fit for your student; this website also offers some helpful sizing advice.

Q: What do you charge?
A: Rates can be found on this page
