Piano Lesson Options

Private 30 minute Lessons

This is the most common format of lessons that I teach, particularly for pre-school through elementary-age children (as well as beginner middle school students).  We work on understanding keyboard geography, proper technique, rhythm, general musical concepts, always connecting back to the greater system of what makes music SOUND GOOD…theory!  I like to incorporate games and activities to keep learning fun and interesting.

Private 45 minute Lessons

For students in middle school who have had a few years of piano instruction already, as well as all high school and adult students, I find that 45 minutes gives us the right amount of time to cover what we need to in order to progress at a rate that is enjoyable and empowering for the student.  Once students are at this higher level of learning (as well as able to have a longer attention span), we can more fully dive into longer and more complex pieces, as well as work on the necessary skills to be able to “play by ear”, really understanding what makes music work so that they can even write their own music and/or effectively lead worship or play pop-style music off of a lead sheet.

Partner Lessons—45 minutes 

I find that partner lessons can be incredibly beneficial for students who love to learn together with others.  The added camaraderie (and sometimes competition) can help fuel not only the FUN, but also the motivation to keep working hard.  We focus on all of the concept and performance practices that we would in a private lesson, yet have the added benefit of being able to work on more duets and have the flexibility with different games we can play to further add fun into the mix of learning.  Partner lessons are dependent on whether or not I have other interested students in being a part of a partner lesson.  I like to coordinate age, general interest, and basic level when setting students up for success at partner lessons.
