Preschool No Book Beginner's Course - 8 weeks
This course is for preschool children ages 4-6 and is perfect for building a strong foundation of rhythm and aural awareness, all while encouraging a deep love for the sounds we can create at the piano! There is no book that needs to be purchased for this course (hence the title). One of the main goals of this course is to help children "switch on their ears" from an early age and help them learn the geography of the keyboard, setting the stage for strong music reading skills as they grow and develop. At the heart of this course, we emphasize sound first over reading, much the way we would encourage kids to learn to speak and read written words. We learn by listening and doing first, THEN applying those learned sounds and output to what it looks like on paper (reading). We do this in a fun and age-appropriate way that encourages full-body interaction with rhythm and notes, on and of the bench. Developing a love for music and the ability to create music is at the heart of this course.
No Book Beginner's Course (Elementary) - 8 weeks
Similar to the Preschool No Book Beginner's Course, this course is geared towards early elementary children (ages 6-8), and focuses on setting a strong foundation for rhythm, proper posture/technique, and aural awareness at the piano. As students learn what different rhythms and sounds feel and sound like, we can then move on to reading music. The purpose of this course is to jump right in to the joy of playing (and singing) music, all the while getting them ready to read music. With this approach, we can not only set the stage for a child to have strong music reading skills, but we can develop the tools necessary to empower them to create their own music (improvise). There is no need to purchase an accompanying book for this course.
4 Chord Composing Course - 12 weeks
Do you have the basics of reading and playing piano music but have always wondered how someone can sit down at the piano and just play something "by ear"...AND sound good?! Or maybe you've simply wanted to be able to play and sing a popular song you've heard on Spotify or YouTube without having to buy the sheet music. This 12 week group course (up to 3 students at a time) will give you the skills necessary to unlock the mystery to what makes certain kinds of music so popular and how it's much easier than you ever thought to play it yourself! This is a great course to inspire the composer within you never knew existed!
Pre-requisite: Basic knowledge of note names at the piano, as well as approximately 2-4 years of experience playing piano. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding the pre-requisites.
